Balak entitled "Duka"

First of all for those who don't know what "Balak" is. It is a poem using the Cebuano language. This is my very first Balak. It was a homework for my Cebuano Journalism Class. I had fun making this. This was submitted on August 27 or 26, 2012.

By the way, I also put the English Translation of the poem. The translation is neither literal nor poetical though

Duka = Sleepiness/Drowsiness


Bug-at na ang akong tabon-tabon.
Misugod na og samok nako
Ang duka nga permi mabati
Sayo pa sa gabii

Kon aduna ako’y buhatonon
Lisod sugdon,
Lisod humanon,
Tungod sa duka nga nagsamok-samok.

Grabe ang temptasyon
Samot na nga naa ra sa dapit ang kutson.
Kon ang kapoy mahinumdom,
Ambot na lang unsa ang buhaton.

Moundang ba ko sa akong gibuhat?
Kun padayonon nalang?
Mitan-aw ko sa orasan.
Kadlawon na, sayo pa ko molakaw unya.

Unsaon man ni nako?
Gusto na nako matulog,
Gusto na nako mohigda.
Apan wala pa ko mahuman.

Giandam na nako ang alarm clock
Para duha ka oras gikan karon makamata.
Mihigda nako sa akong higdaanan.
Nagtanday og usa ka unlan.

Sa higdaanan ako miligid pa
Hangtod komportable na ko sa akong paghigda.
Hinay-hinay mipiyong ang akong mga mata
Ug sa dihang nakatulog na ang dalaga.

Napildi na usab sa duka.
Sa akong pagmata
Mitan-aw ko sa orasan.
Oras sa klase hapit na.

Dali-dali ko og bangon,
Pagpangandam sa kaugalingon.
Midagan padulong sa eskwelahan.
Pag-abot sa classroom, nakaginghawa na.

Milingkod ko sa akong lingkoranan
Nagtanga, naghuna-huna.
Hay, napildi na ‘sab ko sa akong duka.
Daghan na ‘sab ko’g humanonon unya. 



My eyelids are already heavy.
Early in the evening,
the drowsiness that I always feel
is distrubing me once again.

If I had something to do,
It was hard to start,
It was hard to finish,
Only because of this disturbing drowsiness.

The temptation was great,
Especially because my bed is just near.
Whenever I remember my exhaustion,
I don’t what I’m going to do.

Should I stop what I’m doing?
Or should I just continue?
I watched at my clock.
It was already past midnight, I still have to go early later in the morning.

What am I going to do?
I want to sleep.
I want to lie (on my bed).
But I’m not yet done (with what I’m doing).

I set my alarm clock,
So that two hours from now, (I could) wake up.
I lied on my bed,
Hugging one pillow.

I roll on my bed
Until I was comfortable with my position.
My eyes slowly closed,
And there I was able to sleep.

Drowsiness prevailed.
As I woke up,
I looked at my clock.
It was almost time for my first class.

I hurriedly got out of bed,
Fixed myself,
And ran to school.
I was able to breathe properly when I arrived at school.

I sat on my chair,
Spacing out, thinking.
Sigh, I let my drowsiness win again.
Now, I still have a lot more to finish.
